Economic Development Project Managers
Happy Friday, friends! I have a duo I would love to introduce to you. Meet Nick Tarpey and Breanne Bye! These two are Economic Development Project Manager for the city of Des Moines and are excellent resources for small business owners.
The Economic Development Project Manager role for these two is a role of multitudes, but primarily their role is to serve as liaisons between small business owners and the city. And if you have ever thought about opening a small business, you know how difficult it can be to navigate the requirements to set up shop. These two are here to help you!
Their goals right now are thinking through what policies can change in the city and make the process of opening a business easier. Nick and Breanne aim to bring a small business lens to conversations, be advocates to the city, and bring a sense of humanity to how small businesses function within our city.
As Economic Development Project Managers, Nick and Breanne explore successful practices from diverse communities to understand what drives growth. They work to identify who is thriving and what resources are essential to support small businesses locally. Engaging in listening and research to create useful guides for ongoing business and community needs is a high priority to them. Small business owners value opportunities to share their experiences, so Nick and Breanne prioritize outreach through a robust calendar of events and in-person meetings. They meet people where they are to better understand their needs, with a focus on equitable access—recognizing that not everyone has the same resources or opportunities.
Some advice for small business owners:
B: Take your time to figure resource and assess whatever programs are out there. Small biz are the bedrock of our economy. It’s ok to ask questions, take your time. Taking time while keeping the passion.
N: Have a understanding that the concept of your business may not be 100% realized. Being open to adapting and have understanding that there is a time and place. Be flexible and able to adapt.
